I did it!!!
I taught myself how to knit a sock.....
I also found out don't use 100% cotton.
So off to the store I go for the correct yarn.
Hubby did say the size was right, which was a good thing, since he thought I was making a sock for gaint.
Kept telling him he is a gaint that hasn't stopped growing yet at the age 37...

Week end knitting

My #3 son loves to run around the house with his newest toy.
"The Swiffer "
I am all for a toy like this, that they want and helps clean up after themselves. All 4 are wanting to clean up spills and sweep, now.
First thing I did was figure out how to refill that bottle!
Was not about to by a bottle daily or weekly.
Next was the pads, again not going to spend a ton of money just because something says I must.
So we tried several things. Some were ok some where not.
Saturday night, I was at Micheals Craft Store.
Couldn't believe it, a free pattern for a swiffer cover, hanging right in front of my eyes. YES!
Grabbed that baby and the needles, for the socks I am attempting....(another post later)
Went home dragged out the scrap cotton yarn and began a little surprise for son (and myself).
This works great ! Will be making another one ........Next time with some fun colors

Laundry Soap and dishwasher soap

I have been messing around with different laundry soap recipes since January.

I believe I finally found one I like.

What I like about this recipe is it doesn't need to cook, sit for any length , it is not guppy and doesn't need to be stirred every time you use it.

Laundry Soap recipe:

1 bar Fels naphtha soap shredded

1 Cup Borax

1 Cup Washing Soda

1 Cup Baking Soda

First time I only shredded the bar of Fels Naphtha and I did not care for it. This time I ran it through the blender, much better especially when blended with the borax and washing soda. So for this recipe it works best if you have a blender or food processor.

I only use a 1/8 cup in my wash.

The Fels Naphtha has a scent to it so I have not added and scent to the soap.

So far very pleased with the cleaning. Even hubby has approved.

This time I doubled the recipe, just because.

Dishwasher Soap

This I tried the laundry soap absolutely did not like.

So went on a hunt for recipes on what to use. Everything was the same as laundry soap just about.

Until I found this recipe for dishwasher soap over at Carrie's blog, Farming on Faith.

2 cups Borax

2 cups Baking Soda

4 little packs of kool-aid lemon aid

So Far so good . I put in 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon then squirt bleach in the soap dish along with it. I filled the rinse compartment with vinegar.

Does pretty good job.

I love simple and easy. Both of these are and will keep using them.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today June 8, 2009
Outside my window..... The sun is shining brightly. The clouds are crisp white fluffy. Looking pure and clean. The sky is a beautiful blue.
I am thinking....God has answered some prayers.
From the learning rooms.....Today is phonics and math with the my youngest. LLALT and wordly wise with the oldest. We already wrapped up math with the oldest now just outside the finish with language arts.
I am thankful.....God has placed us in a church where we are able to be fed.
From the kitchen....Brownies for hubby, a must. He craves sweets more than I do. Still thinking dinner not sure yet. Chef salad and left overs most likely.
I am wearing.....my teddy bear nightgown. I haven't stopped long enough this morning to get dressed. Will be as soon as I am done with my daybook.
I am reading.....The Power of the Praying Wife by Stomie OMartian. Amy over at Dandelion Seeds is leading over a 1,000 women thru 30 days of praying for our husbands. To check it out use this link here. We are on Day 8 but you can still join in.
I am hoping.....the work that has been coming my husbands way keeps coming.
I am creating......another patchwork tote for my store Stitches By Tara on Etsy
I am praying......for my husband.
Around the house.....laundry being done. Very quite day with only two children at home today.
One of my favorite things......peace and quite at times. Even though I miss my little ones a whole lot when they are gone. I do enjoy having a break in the daily busyness.
A few plans for the rest of the week.....finish up language arts with the #2 son so he can go to Mimi and Papa's for a couple of weeks.
Here is a picture thought I am sharing with you.......BEST PALS!
My boys walk all around the house like this. The one on the bottom is actually the younger of the 2, but he is built like a tank. Even had the nickname by a past friend "tank". My 2 boys have even figured this is the way to reach the cabinets to put dishes away.
It is always nice to reflect on our daily journey. Life is simple.
Peggy is taking a break from her Daybook and will return September 14th.
