Baby quilt

This past week I began making Scalloped Edge Baby quilt by Kreative Kiwi

Been a new adventure for me from the traditional quilts. Each square is embroidered on the machine then sewn together matching the stitched pattern. Then backing and finally finish it all with in the ditch quilting.

This pattern has so many options, from square sizes, to how many squares, fabric color, thread color and even the filler squares can be personalized. Which I have done on this quilt, chose to replace the center with my grandsons full name.

I choose the largest square 10x10 so using my 8x8 hoop. What I really like is they include files so the border pieces can be done two at a time. In my 8x12 hoop, anything not to hoop so often.😏
Using tips I have learned by reading other blogs such as after hooping the interfacing place pins along edge to keep it from pulling in.
One I am lacking is to remember to trim the batting while changing bobbin for the fabric. Learning the hard way how important that is… trimming after has caused fabric cut basically having no seam allowance. Going to need a sticky note..

I added up all the squares I needed for all the animals, the saying and fillers. Cut all the interfacing, batting and fabric ahead of time.

With the animals one of the suggestions was to be stitched in color. Since the squares are white in white I thought this would add a little to the quilt over all. Also since my expected grand is a boy I accented the over all quilt with a blue border. Picked a fabric that reminds me of a beautiful clear blue sky, also has white stars all over. Like to blend not have dramatic contrast.
(As you can tell even by the tread color for James Matthew’s name)

For finishing I choose to go with a soft fleece for the backing (of course in a beautiful sky blue) without batting. Read several comments that said batting made it to fluffy. Figured it already has batting doesn’t need more weight and bulk. After the sandwich will finish with stitch in the ditch quilting.

It will be a couple months before I post the finish quilt… baby shower is Sept 1st.

We have a Cosmetologist!

Our beautiful daughter inside and out graduated Cosmetology school on Friday. Already has a job at local barber shop. So proud of her! Graduated high school a year early, lived on her own, strong, independent, works hard, follows Jesus. Loves with her whole heart.
She is the fire cracker in the family that brings joy, laughter and fun to each day. Being our only girl she holds a very special place in the family. Love watching her live life to the out most fullest, not afraid of living and experiencing.
Baby Girl I love you!!!

Masters Degree

This week was a very proud and exciting moment. Our son graduated Lynn University Conservatory with his Master in Music performance.

He has such a desire and passion for music that it will warming to see his talent and knowledge be shared with others as his private studio grows. He loves gigs, and the stories of the places he is invited to, wow! Performed for a Dutch and Duchess from England recently.

Crazy busy 2 weeks none stop

Ever feel like your days ran together? That has been our last two weeks. Work is great don't get me wrong 14 + straight was a lot.  Wondering if I will ever not feel super worn out again. I had dreams of quilting and cross stitching on this weekend that we took off. Truth is I rotted my brain with games on my phone or cleaning and laundry.

Which should not have taken to long but I followed tiK Tok advice on floor mopping.

Floors had traffic trails that had to go which regular floor cleaning was not cutting it. So, I had this genius idea to try tik tok hack. Well. let me tell you it worked amazingly! It lifted the dirt no more traffic lines, mop water was black. Then the floors dried and what did I see? Grey lines and spots, so I mop again with the dish washer pod and water, once again grey every where. Dish pods do great at breaking down dirt not so great at capturing the dirt. Out came Fabaluso and then plain water. By the time i was done mopping the entire house had been mopped 5-6 times. By this time I was giving evil eyes to anyone who dared to walk on the floors with shoes.
Feels great having floors so clean being able to walk barefoot feeling that clean.
Does anyone wax their linoleum? Ours is original to our home (1980). i am thinking that a good waxing would prevent that imbedding dirt.

I still want to sew but it isn't happening today either. I hear the dryer calling and it is almost dinner time.

Below are some pictures of the week.........

Here is a picture of a sweet surprise my daughter gave me this week plus no slip socks with mama bear

My new shirt we have a grandbaby on the way. We are so excited she/he is due in October

Nicole helping to do dry wall. More of a supervisor

As we prepared to leave one job, Nicole jumped in and passed out. Like she did any work, unless you call eating your leash work.
