The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today May 25, 2010

Outside my window...
I am actually outside enjoying the bird's
singing, dew filled air and noticing the first blooms
on the crepe myrtle are here.
We had a visit of rain last night the evidence is all
over, included the chair I am sitting in, LOL.

I am thinking...
about my son playing Prelude for his
orchestra class yesterday. The dedication
that he displayed and the hard work all on his own
to this piece. So that he could fulfill what Mr. May
and he had talked about before
we lost Mr. Jonathan May suddenly.

I am thankful...
for the opportunity my husband is
working on to give to our son!

I am wearing..
Gratitude for our Father's provisions

I am remembering....
prayer and faith is the only way we can get
through some of the things that happen in life.

I am creating....
I have added two projects this week to my plate like I don't
have enough things to finish.
1) slip covers for a friend
2) quilt for a fundraiser

I am praying...
for Pastors family and the loss of their son
this week. Their son leaves behind a wife and three children,
the third due in three weeks......+

From the kitchen...
I have a easier time planning
meals in the winter.

I am hoping..
to get more beach time in this year
then last. We already have plans with friends
at the beach for the fireworks every Saturday,
beginning this weekend.

From the learning rooms...
we have been chipping away at math and LLATL.
Children are asking for science and history I need to
make a day of those two subjects for them.

I am hearing...
tree frogs, crickets in the distance and the morning songs
of the birds. Love mornings like these to sit outside
and soak up nature.

Around the house...
there is fresh folded laundry to be put away, days are being
managed so that school can be the main focus.

One of my favorite things...
year end of extra curricular activities. Funny since
in Aug/ Sep my favorite thing is the beginning of these
same activities.

Few plans for this week...
Preparing Jon for his big day on Saturday.
also the children's finial orchestra performance on Wednesday.
  working on vbs plans.

Here is a picture I would like to share...
 summer fun being enjoyed!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For today May 18, 2010

Outside my window..
It is late the day is gone into night, with a cool crispness that
is nice after a hot sunny day.

I am thinking...
about prayer and waiting on God's guidance, especially
when feelings are involved.

I am thankful..
for all the prayers for our dog. He is still improving,
today he was acting very much like our Simon. He still has a couple of wounds
that are taking time to heal. You can tell the pain has just about gone.

I am wearing...
the strength of prayer

I am remembering...
Words a friend shared with me today,
"give thanks for the hurt or disappointment felt due to others actions"

I am creating...
planning a quilt that has been on my heart
for awhile. I have a couple of months
to get it done,if am going to listen and follow.

I am hoping and praying...
for our aunt

From the learning rooms...
Math, reading and Music
Farm, home and animal care and maintenance

I am hearing...
silence the children are sound asleep for the night.

From the kitchen...
adjusting to more fruit and veggies and salads
more cooking on the grill.

Around the house...
children are helping with the laundry that I fell behind doing
Simon is still being supervised each time he is outside.
The kittens are open eyed and have begun to work on
strengthening their tiny legs.
The chickens have majority of their adult feathers and love to catch the love bugs
that each day seem to grow by the hundreds. Even though they don't bit
like mosquito's they are just as annoying.

One of my favorite things..
a son that walks up and hugs me out of the blue.

A few plans for the rest of the week...
orchestra practice preparing for the year end performance in
a couple of weeks. Children's choir preparing for the year end party.
Meeting tomorrow for VBS plans.

Here is a picture I would like to share...
my oldest enjoying VBS last year

Ever hear bird's in the chimney?

For about 5 yrs now we have chimney visitors
Each year we enjoy hearing them come build their nests.
For about two weeks in May they become very loud. We have learned
these are the last  two weeks we spend with them until next year.

The sounds of them coming down the chimney is the most
amazing, they come down with such power
That I am always looking for the thunderclouds.
As the babies grow the sounds become louder and thundering, rumbling and roaring.
In the evening you can sit outside and listen the the swoop and watch
them come in and out.
On a occasion they come in with such power they end up in the fire area.
As a few nights ago when I was waken by one that missed and boy no one was happy.
This year he did find his way back up to his family.
Last year we had two (see picture below) that needed assistance.
We were surprised at how extremely soft they are.

I have posted a link if anyone would also enjoy learning about what
our chimney houses.

update on Simon

photo taken by pooh bear and piglet
with a request to post.
They want you all to know who Simon is.

--------------------------------------

As of today Simon finally began to drink some water (Praise).
Then this afternoon due to a truck horn, Simon actually had enough
energy to come out of his home (Praise).
To keep him calm and close I did place a leash on him as we
were outside, he did pee pee. (big Praise). These
are positive signs we believe, since he has not come out of his
house or drank, since the attack.
As he moves you can see it is very painful for him.
He definitely has many puncture wounds and a
some lacerations on his body. Our main concern is
the soft ball size swellingon his lower belly.
The swelling around it has gone down
so the hemotomia (sp?) is more visible now.
It has not increased in size its self, so another praise.

-----------------------------------------

With Simon being up it did give us the opportunity
to change his bedding, and give him
a nice cushy bed to be more comfortable on. We also took this
 as a chance to spray
him real good with more Lanocaine to help fight any infection.
He then climbed back into his home and has been
peacfully resting since.

---------------------------------------------

Thank you so much for the prayers and the
many kind words each of you have left.
They have meant the world to us especially
pooh bear who's heart has been breaking
 seeing his dog so injured.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For today May 11, 2010

Outside my Window...
cool breeze, bright sunshine day with prefect temps
windows open enjoying the wonderful weather.

I am thinking...
about our Jack Russell, Simon. He was seriously
injured last night by the neighbors 6 dogs.

I am thankful....
for a husband that can be tender when needed.

I am wearing...
working on wearing patience and humbleness.
Especially when it comes to my family.

I am remembering...
Simon gave himself for my 3 young children.
He has done this before but this time those nasty dogs
pinned him down and seriously hurt him.

I am creating..
at the moment I have the same
projects going on. My life is over flowing with
our future generations, learning.

I am going...
today to children's choir. then tomorrow a 2 hr rehearsal for
orchestra. Rest of the week hang around the house.

I am hoping and praying..
for Simon, he is refusing to drink or eat.
Not sure how bad the injuries are? My son is very worried
about Simon since they are best friends.
Praying he makes it threw his injuries.
Thanking he took on the job of protecting the children.

From the learning rooms...
working on the normal books, but
life is giving her own lessons also..
first aid and tenderness given to a helpless animal.
Patience, sacrifice of self for others
due to unexpected deliveries by life.
 Auto repair of a clutch
small engine repair
home maintenance.
Thankfulness and peace in the mix of it all.

I am hearing...
Pipper, the Quaker parrot.
squawking and talking trying to get someones attention to open his cage.
As pooh bear sweeps the kitchen floor the last of the
kitchen morning clean up.

From the kitchen...
taco salad
hamburger and hot dogs
marinated chicken
there hasn't been a meal plan around here in week's.
Just the season of life we are in at the moment.
Luckily hubby has been helping out since I don't function
well in the unplanned format. He blooms..

Around the house...
truck repair being dealt with, animal hospital (emergency care and nursery)
the normal pick up and maintenance.
With all that is going on we are trying to work together
and stay calm together.

One of my favorite things..
hearing my morning greeting from my daughter.
Her greeting began years ago when she was a toddler
every morning I receive a hug with "good morning mommy"

A few plans this week...
concentration on all our extra curricular activities year endings.
We are also working on plans for summer which include
VBS and  trips to a couple of local state parks also a few trips to
the free summer movies.

Here is a picture I am sharing..
a fruit fly trap, "IT WORKS".

Nature at it's best..

As the three were picking those luscious black raspberries
they found another bird nest.
Either a mocking bird or blue jay.

Sunday, May 9, 2010

Fresh picked by 6 little hands

Black raspberry bushes line our acres.

Which are producing an abundance of berries this year.

Fresh picked black raspberries from our yard.

cooked into a pie filling.

Made into this homemade pie by one of the 3 who picked all the berries.

2 cups of black raspberries
2/3 cups sugar
2 Tbsp cornstarch
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1/2 cup water
cook over medium heat until thick, stir constantly. Remove from heat and cool.
Pour into pie crust bake at 425 for 35 to 40 minutes.

We doubled the recipe since the pie dish was a bit bigger.

These are the 3 that so proudly picked all the berries for the pie.
.
Every time they came back to the house
Evidence was covering
their tiny little faces, that the berry
picking was being greatly enjoyed.

Happy Mother's Day

Mother's Love
Her love is like
an island in life's ocean,
vast and wide
A peaceful, quiet shelter
From the wind, the rain, the tide.
'Tis bound on the north by Hope,
By Patience on the West,
By tender Counsel on the South
And on the East by Rest.
Above it like a beacon light
Shine Faith, and Truth, and Prayer;
And thro' the changing scenes of life
I find a haven there.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For today May 4, 2010

Outside my window..
Forecast to be another 90 degree day. Not to bad yet the nights are still
cool enough. I am not turning the air on yet. May is to early in Florida
Come July and August you don't want to go outside at all.
Besides tomorrow is forecast for thunderstorms lucky if we reach the 80's.
and this time of year we have the best breezes.

I am thinking...
about money and God's promise to provide. Staying strong
on God's promise when we live in a world that you need
money for everything and there just isn't enough for even the daily needs.

I am thankful...
a husband that is creative and resourceful
we wouldn't be where we are even today if he wasn't so resourceful
and talented.

I am wearing...
God's promises, if I wasn't I
wouldn't be able to keep going each day.

I am remembering...
my mom, mailing her a card with a gift card for Mothers day.
Last I saw my mom was 3 yrs ago. Funny how time flies by and before you
know it yrs have past. I am trying to reach out to her more, she needs
to feel loved just as much as I want too...

I am creating...
still the scarf, not going anywhere much with sewing
or the crafts. Have been more busy creating the present and future with my children.

I am going...
we were going to choir but hubby thinks
we need to stay home. I tend to agree.

I am hoping and praying...
for work and guidance and for work.

From the learning rooms...
we will be working on all subjects today.

I am hearing....
morning chores and one already working on school

From the kitchen...
this week home made pizza
15 beans with ham and fresh made bread
steaks
hamburgers
spaghetti

Around the house...
normal daily chores and concentration on school.

One of my favorite things...
seeing the world through a child's eyes.

A few plans this week...
Staying home except for orchestra on Wednesday
and grocery shopping Friday
or Saturday.

Here is a picture I am sharing...
May crown made of wild flowers from our back field.
